(Photos by Joe Grippo) – Last weekend, Cecil County Dragway became home to one of the coolest races in the nation, the 2013 Yellow Bullet Nationals. This event has completely exploded over the last couple of years and Grippo reports that there was a total car count nearing 500 freaking entries for all of the different classes of competition offered. Due to family commitments, Joe was only able to hang out at Cecil on Friday but that didn’t stop him from blazing us several hundred shots from the starting line, the pits, and virtually every corner of the track.
We’re going to bust Joe’s shots into three galleries and this one today will be the first. There was a test session on Friday that he caught a lot of and then evening qualifying that went deep into the Maryland night. Next year, we’re making sure to be there because (a) we’ve got pals racing down there and it would be fun to hang out with them and (b) this race is freaking awesome, drawing some of the most gnarly small tired machines from around the country and down from Canada to compete.
Yellow Bullet is the biggest drag racing message board out there and as much as the racers some to the event, lots of the dudes and dudettes that hang out on the ‘Bullet make it a point to get there and meet people in person they may have only known through the internet. That’s pretty neat and a testament to the community that exists there.
