A New Coupe On The Way? Genesis May Have A Mustang Fighter In The Works

A New Coupe On The Way? Genesis May Have A Mustang Fighter In The Works

(By Tom Lohnes) – The Hyundai Genesis Coupe has become sort of a legend among the small KDM (Korean Domestic Market) community. With it’s very tunable 3.8-liter V6 and dual-clutch transmission option, the Genesis Coupe has put up a valiant fight against the finest of V6 Mustangs and Camaros. Recently, the product planner for Genesis has sort of called for a revival for the Coupe, and I think it is a pretty good idea.

With the success that is the Genesis G70 and the new BMW 4-series coming out, this would be a fantastic time to launch a new Genesis Coupe. With the addition of Hyundai’s 3.3-liter Twin-Turbocharged V6, an absolutely great engine, has propelled a G70 to 60 in 4.5 seconds. That 4.5 seconds has stumbled into V8 muscle car territory.  This could give the Camaro and Mustang a new opponent, and possibly give Dodge some motivation to redesign the Charger and Challenger. The G70 can either be had in RWD or AWD, so the coupe could have that too. A base 2.0T version will probably be available with a 6-speed manual for the tuners who need a little more control over the car. An 8-speed automatic will probably be the sole transmission on the 3.3T.

With the styling and performance of the Genesis G70, and the sleekness of a fastback coupe, I could very well see a new Genesis Coupe coming soon.

Have always loved V-6 engines. I think this little coupe will be a player. Not against the supercharged V-8’s, but in it’s own market. OK, Toyota & Honda, let;s see what you can come up with.

I am hard core Chevy, but my daughter bought a 2016 Coupe a couple years ago and I love that thing. It handles great and stops great with the stock Brembos. The motor pulls extremely hard in the upper RPM range. All around great car.
