It’s easy to write off a Honda Civic that looks like it’s trying too hard to be a fast car. What isn’t easy is handling the fallout when a serious machine wearing the big framed “H” rolls into the beams. What do you do? Overestimate and go for broke and hope you are right? Pray that you have a poser in the next lane and save what you can for something serious? In the case of this Civic, your best hope was to pray for something to break within the car, because when it appeared at King Of The Streets, it was on kill from the moment the track opened up. There was no question that this Honda was legit: it wears it’s parachute with a bit of threat and the turbocharger that is feeding the 2.0L four-banger is on display for the world to see. The coolest part of this car is that it was running in the “Banger” class, which meant that it had to have an H-pattern manual trans and a third pedal to run, and was stuck to a 26″ or smaller slick. That’s a field almost hand-picked for Fox Mustangs on nitrous…and driver Jamie Davila had no trouble working his way through the field. Unfortunately, the transaxle took a dump in the final round, letting him dow, but there’s nothing to be ashamed of here. Break-build-repeat is the mantra of the true racer, and we hope this little heartbreaker makes more appearances soon!
