Well THIS is different! You are about to see Jesse Rhodes in his Duramax powered, six speed equipped, gutted to the bones Silverado truck. Rhodes claims that this truck has been in the 11s before and while he does not do it in this video, we believe him. With repeated 124mph trap speeds, that tells us that the truck has 11-second capability. What kept it from the 11s here? Jesse normally runs the truck in 4WD, unfortunately he fragged the front differential early on his first run so that left him with a tire spinning 2WD truck for the rest of the event.
The whole thing is awesome and kind of a throwback to the old days of hot rodding. The engine is really simple with the factory turbo being ditched for a bigger pump. Combine that with some fueling upgrades and you have a truck that can really move out. Of course there is the weight reduction program thats’s pretty extreme. You’ll see in the cab that there’s basically nothing left. You’ll see that the bed is not a bed at all but a coupe of sides that are just giving the illusion of one.
Rhodes has the driving style down.He winds ‘er up, steps off the clutch and does his best not the blow the guts of the ZF six speed into kingdom come. The transmission is bone stock apparently. This is a testament to its strength as we’re sure it has dozens (hundreds?!) of drag strip runs just as violent as these under its belt. While it stinks the front differential broke, we’re still in love with the truck because it is great.
We know GM has not offered the 6-speed for years in their trucks but how many Duramax six-speed have you seen out there? Not many for us!
