Hang On Sloopy! Watch These Two Small Tire No-Prep Racers Avoid Disaster Narrowly

If you need a microcosm of why people love no-prep racing, this video from Urban Hillbilly that was captured at the throw down known as Outlaw Armageddon 2017 will tell you all you need to know. Basically the most pure form of drag racing on the planet today there’s no prep on the track, there’s a green light, a win light, and you either advance or you don’t. It is not about setting low ET, it is not about anything other than getting to the other end. Hell, even the classes are simple. Big tire and small tire.

These two cars are in the small tire category and as you will see, the driver plays a very critical role in no-prep racing. That critical role is as much about leaving first as it is about not destroying your car or the guy’s in the other lane. There’s steering, pedaling, and about as much of a butt pucker moment as you’d ever want to experience on the track without anything getting torn up.

Plenty of people think no-prep racing is dumb and they are totally entitled to their opinion. We don’t think that it is because as you will see, loads of kids show up to watch this stuff and loads of people love watching it. When you literally don’t know what’s about to happen next it makes for a hell of a show. These two racers likely breathed a sigh of relief when they were in the shutdown area. We’re pretty impressed with the seemingly synchronized yawing and skidding both of these guys get into.

This is no-prep racing in a nutshell. Love it or hate it, it is filling tracks and keeping the lights on. That’s a damned good thing in our book.

I can sum up Brian’s three paragraphs in one sentence.

As long as there are people willing to crash their cars, there will be people happy to pay to see it.

And that’s a damn good thing!

Thanks for sharing this Brian. There will always be different strokes for different folks. I know you announce NHRA events but no prep is in the true spirit of hot rodding which is why it is so popular. The N(HotRod?)A unfortunately has lost sight of this.
