The black one is an all-wheel-drive monstrosity that simply digs down and gets the show on the road. The wrapped one used to be all-wheel-drive and just as nasty, but is now on the hunt for the seven second mark and weight loss included the front drive components. Harrison Zauke’s “The Brick” Grand Cherokee SRT-8 and Jimmy Koutsoubis’ WK SRT-8 might be the furthest concept from what a Jeep is supposed to be, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t work. By and large, watching either one of these Grand Cherokees move out when the bulbs flash down on the Christmas tree at the strip is always a fantastic show…even trimmed down for race weight, you can’t get past the visual of a large SUV launching as if someone shot it off of the deck of an aircraft carrier. It blows your mind a bit.
Both of these rigs race in the Modern Street Hemi Shootout series in the Demon Performance Super Pro class, and you are looking at the first and second place vehicles from the most recent throw down at Maryland International Raceway, which went down recently.
