Whether you are a fan of modern day pro stock racing or not you have to respect the amount of work, time, and dedication that goes into making one of the top running cars as good as it is. In this video made by Valvoline, we get a look at the world of NHRA pro stock on a testing day. This time the teams were practicing and gathering data at zMax Raceway in Concord, North Carolina. Obviously shot last year, you’ll see Shane Gray, Dave Connolly, and their teams wrenching, running, and working to make their cars quicker and more consistent.
As most of your probably know, zMax has undergone a complete repaving process to fix the track after the last NHRA event there of the 2014 season. Several issues were discovered by the facility and those issues were remedied in preparation for another year of hosting a pair of NHRA Mello Yello series races. You’ll hear some interesting stuff from the drivers and crew chiefs here. Notably that they sometimes test general performance stuff but other times they are testing specifically for the track. zMaX was well known for the “drop off” that happened shortly after the starting line and Dave Connolly mentions that in this video. The number of times and the frequency of the testing is pretty wild as well.
Watch all of the goodness here and then see how these guys (Connolly in top fuel) do in Pomona!
