Drag Action Photos: High Flying Super Stockers at Maple Grove During The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Event

(Photos by Joe Grippo) – We live in a drag racing world right now that is obsessed with small tires. 315s, 275s, and 235s are snatching headlines left, right and center. Those things are awesome and the performances that racers are getting out of them are mind-numbing but here will always be an argument for big ol’ rear tires a drag car. Why? For one it looks awesome and for second, they work! Super stock is an NHRA category that allows for steamrollers out back and the vast majority of racers take advantage of that and it means big wheelies out of the more powerful cars.

Yes, we know radials may be more efficient but there’s something about seeing a set of wheel tubs completely filled to the gills. These photos come from the camera of Joe Grippo and they were taken at the recent NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racng Series event at Maple Grove Raceway in Pennsylvania. This is one of the oldest school big tracks in the country and NHRA super stockers showed up in droves. Good ol’ Division One is still very strong in the stock and super stock ranks with not only some of the best looking cars in the nation but some of the best running as well. Enjoy these photos and run the mental screaming engine sound track in your brain as you check them out!
