If the car show participants weren’t happy about the rain that fell on Thursday morning at the Holley Hot Rod Reunion 2017, you can imagine the gnashing of teeth that was occurring in the pits with the drag racers. Standing water down both lanes by noon was nobody’s idea of a good time. Many teams elected to use the rain to go through their cars for a thorough checkover before Friday’s sunnier forecast broke. Since the weather was much cooler than Friday was expected to be, those that did run ran the quarter more as shakedown passes or to test their setups. By the later parts of the day, though, the sun broke out and first-round qualification races were being thrown down. Traction? Not a problem…unless you owned the rough 1968 Camaro that spit it’s rear universal joint in every possible direction, or your car was one of the several that spit up water or coolant at the starting line.
