(Words and photos by Bad Brad’s Speed Shots) – So, you’re thinking “oh great, another car show in the middle of racing season.” Well gang, this event was held as a visual and sensory overload meet and greet between the Oklahoma Motorsports Management Group, and the Cheyenne Arapaho Tribe, Lucky Star Casino owners and operators. The two groups have already begun serious negotiations on building a multi use motorsports racing facility just a mere 20 minutes west of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. We’re talking a quarter mile drag strip, 3/8th mile oval dirt track, and liquid quarter mile for drag boats. So, Oklahoma and Texas Racing Teams of all types showed up for this event to display and warm up some of their racing machines for the people in attendance and to help support this proposed venture.
The people that came to the event were lucky enough to see and hear both winged and non winged sprint cars fire and idle around the display area after receiving their required push starts. Drag racing was well represented too with fire ups by a super comp dragster, an alcohol funny car, and a nostalgia nitro funny car complete with a couple of throttle whacks. It’s always fun to watch those new to nitro racing jump sky high. Then two pro mod drag boats roared to life followed by the show closer top fuel hydro filling the air with nitro and the roar of 10,000 horsepower. NHRA and Lucas Oil Drag Boat Series representatives were also in attendance as well.
The Oklahoma Motorsports Management Group was very pleased with the turn out for the meet and greet from both the racers, fans, and Cheyenne Arapaho officials and tribal members. The hope is that this event demonstrated the investment all types of racing teams make to compete in the sport they love and their dedication to the sport.
So, enough of my babbling, go check out my shots. See you at the drags.
