(Photos by James Champion) – We’re back with more great photos from the recent visit that JJ Da Boss and his band of merry men (and women) made to Cottonwood Dragway in Alabama. It was a down home night at a down home drag strip with arm drop starts, big wheelies, no time grudge action, and as many people as have showed up to the place in decades. Between the people packed on the cross over bridge to the people lining the fences all the way down the strip, this was a great night for the track and clearly JJ Da Boss and the racers that came are connecting strongly with a great generation of drag racing enthusiasts.
Why do people like these cars? Firstly, they are cars! Steel bodies and headlights, they are big tire equipped, mean-ass grudge cars! The drivers have personality, the action is kind of crazy with cars skating around the track and occasionally bouncing of the wall.
The fun thing here is the fact that if we dressed all the kids in blue jeans and white t-shirts it would look just like any drags strip did 50 years ago. We can hope that the kids who attended this event had a great time and will be back with their own car or their buddies again at Cottonwood. Events like this help keep small tracks alive and help create a new generation of racers and enthusiasts. Win!
This is racing. Big “money is no object” cars are boring.
It’s obvious some of these people have never seen a transmission explode.
Somebody\’s chasing a severe wreck on a four-wheeler while the racer is still and the emergency crew are a couple of guys that figure out what to do during the incident.
