This video rules on a couple of levels. Firstly it rules because we get to spend some quality time with the Kalitta Motorsports team and their fleet of nitro powered race cars. Secondly it rules because we hear directly from Jim O who is the man in charge of the day to day operations of Kalitta Motorsports. Thirdly it rules because the footage is cool and we get to see parts and pieces slinging about as the crew guys do their jobs. Outside of all the cool stuff you’ll see the team talks about Red Line Oil and the positive impact their products have had on their cars. We’re not just talking about engine oil but also their gear oil which is used in the rear ends of their top fuel and funny car entries.
People wrongly believe that every single piece of a top fuel car is used up on every run. It isn’t. Yes, there are things that get consumed, even on clean passes and that parts have a lifespan that is limited because of the fact that there is so much physical punishment in the engine, but the whole motor is not a throwaway after every run.
Not to be overly dramatic here but oil plays an amazing role in how things survive or they don’t on a run. Teams choose their sauce wisely because when the stuff doesn’t work as advertised things get expensive in a hurry. For every couple of runs you can get more life out of parts and for every couple of runs that do not result in a failure that could have been prevented, teams can save huge money.
