The news of the 600+ horsepower, supercharged hemi engine known as the Hellcat at Chrysler has rip sawed across the internet like a Japanese bullet train and rightfully so. This engine plants the Challenger right in the thick of the wild horsepower wars that have been going on from the domestic manufacturers over the last 10 years. The Chrysler guys now totally have something to puff their chests about that’ll out hustle Camaros and tuned up Mustangs. As you will hear in the video below, this thing sounds HELLACIOUS. Really, if the production model sounds anything like this one, it’ll be one of the meanest factory sounding cars of all time. Period, end of story.
Now, on the front that no one is talking about, the Hellcat could be a HUGE game changer in the sport of drag racing. Currently, the Chrysler Drag Pack Challenger does not have an engine available to run with the supercharged COPOs and Cobra Jet Mustangs. While that is mainly a point of pride because the Drag Packs have been successful in the various classes that their available engine options allow them to compete in, it is still something that stands as pretty glaring. The Hellcat changes that and if you, for one minute think that the Hellcat won’t be a Drag Pack option your opinion is wrong.
The game changer is that with that offering, all three cars will be (in theory) running hard and fast and in the same ET neighborhood. This would be the perfect storm for a sanctioning body to create a heads up class for similarly optioned cars to race in. Non-blown entires would run in their other typical classes, but the cars with the biggest and most powerful engine options would be radical in heads up competition. This is just our thought and a predictive look into the future that may never happen but it sure would kick come major ass!

I was expecting something better sounding. Nice puff of smoke too, lol.
yeh what IS with that smoke??
Awesome, does it still handle so bad it isn’t even invited to the Mustang-Camaro shoot outs?
Atta boy, hammer that cold hemi!
Sound could be more impressive. What’s with the smoke on start up. My old truck does that on starts. Just saying……
Oil pressure??!! We don’t need no stinkin’ oil pressure! Hard to imagine why it has so much blow-by.
