American Bad Ass: Listen To The Incredible Story Of Art Arfons As Told By Humpy Wheeler, Vintage Audio, Tim Arfons, and More!

We all have our heroes, right? We all have those people that seem to personify some aspect of ourselves that we value. For me, Art Arfons is the greatest backyard hot rodder that ever lived and he’s a guy who would be extremely proud to hold that title. This was a guy who took on the biggest budgets in the world and did it his own way, with his own friends, and his own two hands. This is a guy who went nearly 600mph with an engine he bought from a wrecking yard, a leather jacket, a helmet, and a kind of courage that seems to have all but disappeared from the face of the Earth.

In order to tell the story of Arfons, I went hunting for vintage audio of his exploits in the 1960s, I also went hunting for the people that knew him and his career the best. In this show you are going to hear Humpy Wheeler, the motorsports legend who was in charge of Firestone’s racing efforts in the 1960s tell priceless stories, author Sam Hawley who wrote the book on Arfons vs Breedlove, Bret Kepner who sheds light on the incredible drag racing careers of both Walter and Art Arfons, and finally Tim Arfons, the son of the man himself.

This is a window into the career of a man who personified what hot rodding is. While Mickey Thompson basically became an industrialist in the genre, Arfons was only really concerned with one thing. Making his Green Monsters faster than anything else in the world. Later he went tractor pulling and applied this same line of thought to that competition and dominated there as well.

An American original, this is the story of a truly interesting man.
