Meltdown Drags Coverage: A/FX Cars, Gassers, Injected Doorslammers, and More!

Meltdown Drags Coverage: A/FX Cars, Gassers, Injected Doorslammers, and More!

(Photos by Greg and Jason Rourke) – Through drag racing, the point of the exercise has always been to find ways to go faster no matter what. Lots of the cars in this collection of photos employ the tricks developed by hot rodders in the 1950s and 1960s to get the rear tires to dig in and shove the car down the track. The “reverse rake” with the nose up and the tail down, the engine setback, and even relocated rear axles. All of these things were done because tire, shock, and spring technology were not exactly advancing at a very rapid rate. Those boys back then would literally crap themselves if they saw what guys were doing on 8-9-10 inch tires today.

You’ll see Pontiacs, Fords, Chevrolets, dragsters, and all kinds of stuff in here. The Meltdown Drags 2015 was one heck of a weekend and we’re glad we were there. We’re also glad that we are not done with the photo extravaganza, either. More coming!

I’ve always loved A/FX cars – I would dearly love to see them on the street though I suspect blind panic would ensue when approaching a corner….
