Modern Street Hemi Shootout At Milan Dragway 2017: Where The Elephants Play, Part Two

Modern Street Hemi Shootout At Milan Dragway 2017: Where The Elephants Play, Part Two

It was painfully obvious halfway through the test and tune session that there was no escaping the inevitable: the rain was going to hit and it wasn’t going to be a quick deal. Even before the first drops fell, there were racers packing it in. One Charger had lifted a head gasket. Every racer noted that their times were down, mainly due to atmospheric conditions. But as the test-and-tune was wrapped up and the heavy-hitters of the Super Pro class were being called to the lanes, the clouds opened up just enough that the track crews halted runs. This allowed a tribute to take place for Bobbi “Hemiwoman” Kimak to take place, which saw every last MSHS racer lined up and driving down the track at a slow pace, her husband Ken leading the pack. As the cars filtered down the track, you could almost feel the tears falling from heaven onto the windshields down below. I had met Bobbi at Milan just before the accident and her impact on the MSHS family is still reverberating throughout the community.

I won’t lie…I packed it in shortly thereafter. I changed the radials out in the pouring rain, and by the time everything was packed up and ready to go, I was soaked. It didn’t bother other racers, though the track never did dry out. That’s ok…they’ve been making up for it at the lot on Woodward!
