Money No Object: A 1957 Chevrolet 150 The Way We’d Order One…Bare-Bones With The Fuelie Motor!

Money No Object: A 1957 Chevrolet 150 The Way We’d Order One…Bare-Bones With The Fuelie Motor!

Motorsports in 1957 wasn’t exactly a thing. In fact, there was still a very dark cloud surrounding the idea of racing that was a direct result of the horrific crash that occurred at the 1955 24 Hours of LeMans, with virtually every manufacturer, General Motors included, deciding to abstain from motorsports for the sake of decency. Or, at the least, they made it look like they did…through a round-about way of doing things via Vince Piggins and a dealership in Georgia, you could get a hot variation of the Chevrolet 150 two-door sedan that wound up earning the nickname “Black Widow”. These six-lug GM machies are exceptionally rare…no more than twenty or so were ever made and most got the raw end of racing, finding themselves battered and bruised and ultimately cast off.

But think about this for a second: what if GM had the foresight to see the musclecar era coming years before the Pontiac GTO? Surely the success of the Oldsmobile Rocket 88 would’ve been a tip-off, right? So take a look at what we have here: the most basic of the basic, a Chevy 150 that came with no backseat, the carryover trim from the 1955 model, plain as day dog-dish caps on black steel wheels, yet was packing the 283 horsepower, 283 cubic inch V8 with the Rochester fuel injection system. Such a car didn’t get built, but this one would be the ideal setup. Imagine rolling this down the street in 1957…Plymouths and Pontiacs, step aside, this plain-jane wrapper has something for you and it’s not very nice.

Hindsight always being 20/20, this is a gem we wish could have seen the light of day.
