(Photos by Benoit Pigeon) – Here’s our last peek at the world of NHRA Mello Yello drag racing as it looked in Bristol, Tennessee at the 2018 Fitzgerald USA NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals. This event was radical and it was fun despite the hot and humid conditions. It was a place there talent and craftiness reigned supreme in not only the pro mod world but in basically every class that the sport has to offer. The track was complicated, the traction was complicated, and it was the crew chiefs that made the right and measured calls that won the day, along with the drivers that were on their toes and reacted quickest when their cars tried to spit the bit.
Every race on the tour has its own feeling and attitude. Bristol’s is unique not only for its look and its feel but also for the intensity that it brings. There’s always something big happening at Bristol. The facility itself has a level of intimidation to it, the weather can drop violent storms on the place at will, and often does, then there is the legacy that everyone is trying be a part of. All of it adds up to making Thunder Valley one of the neatest stops in drag racing.
Thanks to Benoit for killing it on these photos!
