Morning Symphony: Vic Tiffin Making Licensing Passes In The “Golddigger” Mustang Nostalgia Funny Car

Happiness is seeing an old-school nitro Funny Car taking the stripe. Yes, the shapes of the cars are cartoony compared to the real machines, but you can tell what you’re looking at in short order, from Vega to Mustang to Camaro and even a ’75 Dodge Charger…one look and you’ll know what’s what. Nevermind that we only barely hold on to our excitement watching as these cars go through the choreography that starts at the staging lanes and ends after the burnout, and once again when the lights flash and a whole lot of engine proceeds to do it’s best to rip the atmosphere in two while warping time as much as possible. Even in today’s parlance, classic nitro funny cars are fast, underscored.

So for your ears this morning, a treat: the Tiffin and Hess “Golddigger” Mustang nostalgia funny car making licensing passes at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois earlier this year. Vic Tiffin was a well-known racer who played in UDRA and IFCA circuits, driving cars like the “Moonraker” Mustang II and the “Tiffin and Hess” Vega. Their latest build, this early Fox Mustang mill looks very healthy for a car making early licensing passes. It looks great and sounds absolutely amazing. You can almost smell the nitro now, can’t you?

I just don’t know how you can call a twisted up looking thing like that “nostalgia”. It doesn’t look like anything close to the cars that ran in the era it represents. Ugh!

I’ve been to a number of these events, and was around “back in the day”, and this looks period correct to me. Now, the modern “big show” cars don’t resemble anything.
I’m sure that Brian, who grew up at New England Dragway, would agree.

Narrow glass house, long WB, not period correct. They can do what they want its their series, but doesn’t look like Dale Pulde’s War Eagle or Prudomme’s Monza.

We dig it, I certainly would not turn down driving it, with body, without, fuel altered style, its still a bad to the bone Nitro burner.
