Motion Raceworks Tech Tip Tuesday: Unpack Your Parachutes!

Motion Raceworks Tech Tip Tuesday: Unpack Your Parachutes!

Unpack your chutes? Wait, what? Yep, unpack them.

If you have a car that is going 150 mph or more on the dragstrip you are required to have a parachute on the car. You are not required to use it, but you are required to have one. With that said, there are only a couple of scenarios that would have me not using the chutes as it keeps the car straight in the shutdown area. In this video from Motion Raceworks, Doug talks about one of those scenarios which is running an 1/8th mile on a 1/4 mile track where there is a lot of shutdown to get through in order to get off the race track. In this video, Doug talks about their project Mustang called El Toro which has been raced a lot this year but that hasn’t used the chute in a long time. This can be bad when you need it, and Doug is going to explain why.

When a chute sits in the bag on the back of the car, all packed up tight, for long periods of time they can absorb moisture and get stiff. This makes it harder for them to deploy.

Listen to what Doug has to say, and remember to unpack your chutes when not in use so they will be soft and ready to pack for your next race.
