Um…what about the Mustang II? While we’ve got nothing against the Mustang II King Cobra, the truth is it was a malaise-era muscle car that looked more than it actually did. But after thirty-seven years, Ford Racing has seen fit to bring honor back to the King Cobra name for the Mustang by showcasing this 600+hp stomper at SEMA. Painted with a snakeskin-style application and (of course) one big-ass Cobra on the hood, the King Cobra is a testament to what the Ford Racing catalog can do to the new S550 Mustang platform. Now, this is NOT a new model of Mustang, but the name given to the concept.
According to Ford, the King Cobra has the “Drag Pack”, which includes heavy-duty half shafts, and a rear sub-frame kit with pre-installed high-performance bushings, the “Handling Pack”, which lowers the car approximately one inch with front and rear lowering springs, the front springs on pre-assembled struts, rear shocks and a stabilizer bar kit, and the” Super Pack”. The “Super Pack” contains a 2.3L TVS supercharger assembly, co-developed and co-branded by Ford Racing and ROUSH Performance, as well as a six-rib belt drive system, intake manifold, electronic throttle body, air inlet system, fuel rail and high-flow fuel injectors, complete air-to-liquid intercooler system and the Ford Racing performance computer calibration.
During testing at Michigan’s Milan Dragway, the King Cobra managed to knock out a 10.97@128mph. Currently there is no word yet on how much the packages will cost, or if the hood graphic will be available for purchase.

It better be fast because it sure is ugly. I didn’t think the new body style could get worse until I saw this paint job.
I guess the theme for SEMA this year is cars that have a lot of work done to them to make them uglier.
Have to agree, this paint job is not doing it for me, nor are the front wheels.
With front wheels that skinny it must be meant for straight line acceleration only.
You’re quick.
Amazing, they managed to make it look as tacky as the original.
Call me crazy, but ditch the wheels and I dig it….
Once again I’m jazzed by something that other people think is ugly…I might give a week’s pay to take that thing out for the evening. Maybe after living with it awhile the graphics would go but the wheels stay!
I would have thought that a company like Ford, who is dominating in Super Stock drag racing with their Cobra Jet offering, would have come to the party with this concept with more than 600hp. Especially since Dodge is delivering a streetable 700hp with their Hellcat.
Its a 4 banger making 600 hp. Lets see what the V8 will do now that Dodge has 700 hp
Where do you get that it’s a 4 banger? Sounds to me that it just has a good sized sized supercharger. That being said I totally think it needs a a paint job just like a black and gold 78′ Mustang II King Cobra.
