It is that time of the year again. Time for the talented folk at the NHRA’s video department to put together the Wild Rides compilation video for the season that was. Let’s just say that the NHRA 2018 Wild Rides compilation is completely freaking crazy. What’s weird is that I was at every single one of these races and a couple of these were like, “Oh, that DID happen there!” moments. From John Force’s calamitous start to the year to Steve Collier’s crazy blow over at Topeka (on a Monday!) to Cruz Pedregon killing funny car bodies like a boss, it was a crazy year.
Because of the sheer number of races, the sheer number of runs, and the sheer number of opportunities for the stuff to hit the fan, it sometimes does. Everyone in this video was OK in the end. Steve Collier was banged up from the blow over but was back to racing before the end of the year and the guy has some big plans that he wants to execute in the sport, so keep an eye on him.
Lots of hemi engines having their fair share of major league issues in this one. Nitromethane has powered the sport to incredible performance heights but it has also wrought levels of destruction that no one could have ever known possible back when the fuel was first being messed with.
Wild rides? Yes. All of them.
