Pretty insane to think that we have made 30 episodes of the NHRA Insider Podcast already this year. It has been a fun way to explore the world of drag racing from the inside out and to expose the inner stories that don’t usually see the light of day.
On this 30th episode of the podcast Jeg Coughlin Jr. and Jack Beckman joined me to talk. The reason I had these two guys on is the fact that both of them are past champions, both of them are within striking distance of a championship, and both of them have made mistakes behind the wheel during this countdown that they owned up to.
With Jeg, I centered the conversation around his past around his growth, his development, and his reasons for continuing to race at this level after proving time and time again that he is one of the best, if not the best ever in the class as a driver and champion. With Beckman it was a different conversation. It was less about the driving aspect of the race car and more about the team aspect, more about the competition between the drivers themselves, and more about how the pressure is mitigated or at least managed during this time of the year.
At the end of the day, both Jeg Coughlin Jr and Jack Beckman are among the mentally strongest competitors in the world of NHRA drag racing. Both are students of the game and both know a lot more about the sport than their duties require them to.
These are two revealing conversations with two guys who know how to get the job done in crunch time. I also recap the races from Charlotte and Dallas and give some analysis on the two remaining events this year.
