(Photos by Joe Grippo) – We knew it was coming. Joe Grippo’s triumphant 2018 return to Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pennsylvania. The dude lives down the road, has spent the better part of his life there, and loves rolling through the gate with his picture taking machine. He was at the fabled track recently to blast photos of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. We have a bunch of stuff to show you from that race but we are going to start with action in the Super Stock category.
Super stock is a class that can be blamed or thanked (depending on your perspective) for stuff like, ohhhh, funny cars! Yeah, it was the weirdly morphed super stockers that kept on getting crazier and faster that lead to altered wheelbase machines, that led to the match bashers, that lead to the flip top cars, that lead to 339mph in 1,000ft. A fun lineage!
Today the modern face of super stock is cool because it embraces old cars, new cars, old engines, new engines, and all the stuff in between. Super stockers qualify on national indexes so having a fast car is a benefit. In eliminations if two cars of the came category square off, there is no breakout and it is a good old, romping, stomping heads-up battle.

Nice pics. When I was in PA a month ago I went to Maple Grove, nice facility. Also went to Ray Bartons and saw that blue Copo Camaro (2nd and 3rd from last pic) being readied.
