It has been a killer couple weeks of news for the NHRA Pro Mod world. Firstly as was announced at the end of the 2016 season, the J&A Service Company will be back as the title sponsor of the tour. It was also announced at that point that the series would expand from 10 to 12 races with the additional events being Topeka, Kansas and awesomely the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals in Charlotte.
For the first time in the history of Pro Modified racing these cars will be sitting 4-wide across the track. Imagine a turbo car, a nitrous car, and two blower cars bookending?! Lastly, it was released earlier this week that the television ratings for the J&A Service NHRA Pro Mod series were up more than 300% over the previous year. Oh it also bears mentioning that the first day when racers could register for events, they all basically sold out instantly. That means there will be upwards of 30 cars again trying to vie for 16 qualified spots.
Qualifying in pro mod is one of the (in our opinion THE) most electrifying thing you will see at an event. It is old school, bare knuckle brawling action where people are being bumped in and out on every pass. The excitement level is insane.
We already covered the fact that Stevie Jackson will be running the whole tour and it has been announced that Larry Morgan will also be making the full tour driving what appears to be a team car with Jay Payne. It’ll be his first foray into the class. There are HUGE rumors flying about who will be driving the Precision Turbo car in 2017 so we’ll keep digging on that front as well.
Few classes come into 2017 with the excitement level of NHRA pro mod and that’s awesome to us. We have the 2016 season highlight video below and we cannot wait for Gainesville!
