After clipping one million likes on Facebook the other day the NHRA put on a super slow motion video on their page and it is pretty cool. For starters everyone involve in the “excitement” featured here walked away from their respective catastrophes to fight again but lots of the engine parts did not. In particular the titanic explosion that TJ Zizzo suffered at Indy in 2014 is shown. The most revealing thing about that ‘splosion is how the chassis reacts and how physics take their toll on Zizzo in the cockpit. The chassis heaves downward when the acceleration quits. Zizzo who is firmly strapped into the car and wearing a HANS is visibly flung forward and all we can think is OOF. You can actually see parts of the blower pass the car.
There’s V. Gaines taking a rough ride in a pro stocker, a dragster caroming into the wall at the worst possible angle and bursting into monster flames, and the hits just keep on coming from there. It is a spectacular part of motorsports, the crashes and it is only spectacular because of the survival rate. So long as the people involved can escape and recover, we’re on board with seeing this stuff, especially in the ultra-slow motion that it is delivered in.

Being that NHRA and NASCAR has been producing videos such as this one since the 1960s, this isn’t something that started yesterday.
Seems more prevalent the past few years though and they seem more mainstream. Wonder if the PR people had this problem with the Christians and the lions ?
