The rain passed on for Saturday, and every minute that we managed to stay away from those happy little clouds, the better off we would be at Beech Bend for the 2018 NMCA Bluegrass Nationals. Nobody wanted a wash-out, and we didn’t get one. Instead, racers had to contend with air that had the consistency of split-pea soup fresh from the pot, hot and thick. Not the most ideal racing conditions by any stretch of the imagination, but the track was open and dry and cars were making their runs to qualify for their classes in the normal groups while the heads-up classes, one of which I was racing in, sat and waited for the big throwdown that happened during the afternoon.
Between the Nostalgia Super Stocks, the Nostalgia Muscle Cars, and the historic Pro Stock style cars, any BangShifter would be able to find at least something to whet their appetites. The Mach 1 seemed fairly tame when I first saw it parked in the staging lanes, but when I caught it in the burnout box, it made it’s intentions as an all-out brawler very clear…you should’ve heard that mean bastard, it’s rev range seemed to be unlimited, like the COPO Camaros and Cobra Jets that were running. And that IROC-Z Camaro in full 1980s Pro Stock mode….lustworthy!
There are still more photos to come from the Bluegrass Nationals, but you can click on a photo below to check out the morning sessions from Saturday!
