NMCA West Drag Race Coverage: The Season Opener At Fontana Was A Wheels Up Affair!

This collection of photos from the 2015 NMCA West season opener at Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, California proves that virtually every car in the place was hooking hard enough to pull the front end up in the air at the hit of the throttle. That’s proof that everyone was keeping their stuff in good shape over the winter and that the track was biting really hard. Heck, the track itself is a great story in how racers and the community can work together.

It was a couple years ago when noise issues (and one really nasty neighbor) forced the track to be closed. Not wanted to give up on the idea, Auto Club Speedway kept after it and finally got the community to agree to doing a sound study where the addition of a sound wall was proposed. The wall was built, Db levels were measured and it was determined that the place was fit for action again. This was spectacular news for LA-area drag racing fans because they once again had a quarter mile place to race.

The NMCA West series, much like the track in Fontana was created to meet the needs of west coast racers who were looking for a new series, a new home, and a new place to race the cars they wanted to race. Outlaw 8.5 cars and other combos have limited opportunities to run on really well prepped tracks and each NMCA West is another chance to do that. These guys took full advantage. We got reports of great car counts and a strong beginning to the 2015 season for the NMCA West series. These photos are proof!
