The pit road at Kansas Speedway was recently used as a no-prep drag strip at an event called Operation Octane. As you will see, the event drew a BUNCH of people and there was a lot of wild racing during the night. The craziest run of the entire night was caught by Urban Hillbilly’s Sean Melton and we have it for you below. These two guys did a bad job of running into each other if you are a negative life view person and one hell of a job of driving if you are a positive, glass half full type of person.
We’re not anti-no prep racing here. We think it is pretty exciting, dynamic, is engaging a lot of guys in the sport, and frankly the rate of crashes isn’t all that much worse than what happens on prepped tracks. The perception is one thing but we’re thinking that the numbers are another.
All that being said, there are limits to any of this stuff. We all know a guy who used to go all out in gym class during high school. He was trying to impress someone and it was annoying, right? Showing up to an event like the Operation Octane race with a blown Camaro that appears to be a full tube chassis car is a little crazy. Kind of like the gym class guy. The results of hammering the hell out of the car on what is basically a bare asphalt track become immediately evident when the Camaro tries to swap lanes and wipe out the small tire Datsun.
Never settling down, the driver wrestles the car down the track and makes the finish line before smashing the lights at the big end of the track. He then comes across the track and nearly wipes out the Datsun AGAIN! That guy was paying attention because he made evasive maneuvers and drove through the grass to avoid the Camaro.
The fact that no one ended up with anything but damaged underwear after all this is completely insane.

I’m all for powering through (within reason) but the Camaro driver should’a lifted way before that mess ocurred.. If i was the dude in the Datsun i would’a been spitting expletives..
But it’s great to watch though! ;D
I half to agree – there’s a fine line between looking cool & safety – the guys with “Gudfar” can pedal that thing!!

No prep drags at a drag strip are crazy enough. But on a pit lane no less. The Kansas Speedway folks should have their heads examined to see if there is anything in there.
