I’ve been around Matt Frater’s 1986 Toyota pickup a fair amount, and I can tell you that this thing is not just for show. It is all go, and gets beaten on regularly. He is not nice to this thing, but it just keeps plugging away. He’s found the weak spots, built them up, and has a combo that is way quicker and cooler than one might expect. It even does some pretty good no prep drag racing and carries the front wheels while doing it!
Video Description:
From Minneapolis to LS Fest East – Matt Frater’s wild ’86 Toyota pickup is no ordinary mini-truck. With the engine in the back, a de-stroked 4.8L LS, twin 62mm turbos, and a Porsche Boxster transaxle holding it all together, this homebuilt beast proves that garage-built ingenuity still rules. Matt’s been wrenching on this truck since high school, blowing up parts, reinventing the chassis, and pushing it harder every season. Now he’s tearing it up at Holley LS Fest with one of the most unique Toyota pickups you’ll ever see.
