One More Pass: This Short Film Shows The Drag Week Experience Of Larry Dixon

Drag Racing’s version of the Ironman Triathlon. That’s what three time NHRA top fuel world champion and Drag Week alum Larry Dixon calls the event in in this awesome video made by the guys at Optima, Chevrolet Performance, and ChevroletHardcore.com. The 10-minute video is cool because it not only explores Dixon’s hall of fame career in the world of NHRA racing and how he came to (and continues to work to) live that life but it also explores his first experience at Drag Week, which is an event that’s a life altering experience for anyone who attempts it.

Dixon competed in a Chevy II that he has owned since he was a kid. The car was one of the first LT4 powered swaps in the country and it was, like most Drag Week cars finished about 15 minutes before the event started.

Knowing Larry a little on a personal level I can tell you that what you see is what you get. He is as genuine a guy as you’ll ever meet and someone who love and bleeds the sport of drag racing. That’s why he fit right in at this deal and instantly became one of the guy. Ok, one of the guys who had to pose for more selfies than the typical competitor, but still one of the guys.

Perhaps my favorite line in the whole film is when Larry talks about how being a professional drag racer is not for the faint of heart and then immediately follows that up with how Drag Week is not for the faint of heart, either.

This is a great way to spend 10 minutes of your day. Hell, you are not doing anything important at work this week anyway, right?!
