Great News: Onondaga Dragway Is Set To Reopen After Four Years Of Dormancy!

Here’s some good news from the world of drag racing. Onondaga Dragway, the historic drag plant that served as the career starting point for legendary announcer Jon Lundberg and was a place that a young EJ Potter tested out his early Widowmaker bikes is set to reopen after four years of being closed. The track was shuttered because of lawsuits in 2013 and amazingly the track actually won their case and volunteers have been working to get the place into some sort of race-able shape and soon.

Onondaga is not the fanciest place in the world but it is a drag strip and it is a strip loved by many and fought for by passionate enthusiasts who never gave up on the idea of opening the gates and burning rubber again. If my memory is correct, when the place first opened up in the 1960s, it was actually dirt. It was later paved and like many tracks in the center of the country, was graced with loads of competitor cars and some of the great period match racing that defined the era.

The video and story below tell the tale and show some of the people who have been doing the work to go racing again. How great is this?!
