We have all had a public automotive “whoopsie” in our hot rodding careers, right? Maybe you threw a driveshaft out pulling hole shots, maybe you got busted doing a burnout, or maybe that last donut you turned on the high school lawn was one too many, but no matter your tale of woe, it will not beat this one. The driver of the very powerful Dodge Dart featured in this video had no idea that the entire rear axle was going to abandon ship on him when he hammered the throttle but boy did it ever. The car rockets by the vehicle with the camera on the right side but shortly (like a second) later, the rear of the car starts walking about and then BOOM…out comes the entire rear end!
The audio on the video is terrible and most of what you will hear is the people in the video car laughing like a pack of hyaenas while the owner of the Dart tries to figure out what happened and formulate an alibi for the police who are surely on the way. “Honest sir, I hit a patch of sand!” That one never worked for us, either. The car looks absolutely pristine before suffering this mishap and you can clearly see quarters buckling and other massive failures happening as the wayward machine slides down the road.
The rear axle with what look to be shocks still attached bobs and rolls down the road with what look to be the shocks on it as well as a nice chrome rear cover. This is the video definition as a bad day for a gearhead. Woah!
