Outlaw Street Car Reunion V: Afternoon Qualifications, Early Eliminations And That One Run…

As the sun crossed over Western Kentucky, the echoes of angry engines kept coming in waves at Beech Bend as the Outlaw Street Car Reunion V race went on and on. By now we were in the heart of final qualifications and had started to ease into the elimination programs, and this is also where the start of Saturday’s drama involving Mark Micke in Jason Carter’s Malibu, Tim Kincaid in his C2 Corvette, and a 4,400 horsepower engine that had just about enough of competition running. Kincaid saw the sky for a lot longer than we’re sure he was wanting, and Micke wound up in a cloud of oil smoke as the crankshaft became a two-piece deal and the engine’s catch pan got put to the ultimate test. From that moment on, the thrash in the Micke/Carter pit to get the Malibu put back together to keep playing in Radial vs. The World was dominant…there was a crowd around the pits as mechanics, team members and anyone else useful jumped in to get the engines and transmissions swapped out!
