(Photos by Benoit Pigeon) – The PDRA named their world finals this year after Brian Olson. Brian was a good friend of mine and a man who I had spent LOTS of time with over the years announcing races. We shared many hotel rooms back in our IHRA days in such exotic locations as San Antonio, Texas, Norwalk, Ohio, etc. He was an incredibly funny, energetic, and outgoing guy that just loved every aspect of the sport of drag racing.
The two of us could knock each other onto our asses with jokes, quips, and insider junk that no one else understood but us. I miss the guy and oddly I was likely one of the last people Brian spoke to before he passed because he and I ere texting late into the evening at the NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl race in Chicago. He was at home recovering from a motorcycle crash and watching the race on Bangshift. We traded texts at like 10:30 pm and by the following morning he had passed.
Brian would have been proud by the cars, the performances, and the way he was remembered by the PDRA. The racing was hot and heavy and I’m sure going to miss seeing him at the street car super nationals next week!
