Porsche Quick: When Was The Last Time You Saw A 911 Pull The Wheels?

Porsche Quick: When Was The Last Time You Saw A 911 Pull The Wheels?

Normally, here is where I would have to put that plastic smile on my face and make nice about the Porsche 911 lineup, lineage and capability. I know they are capable cars. I know that they are potent, have history, have racing pedigree, and all of that noise. I also know that the most well-known joke about a Porsche, the one that involves a cactus, is more-or-less spot on and that in the end, I still see the most overachieving Volkswagen Type 1 in existence when I see one. I give respect to the 930s, but for the most part a Porsche isn’t my jam. Love or hate it, that’s just the truth.

Note that I didn’t say a damn thing about being quick. With the engine out back, putting weight over the rear tires, a Porsche 911 can get down nicely. As long as you don’t go all angry teenager side-stepping the clutch, a good fast Porsche will squat and shoot off into the sunset. This one, however…this one has magic tricks up it’s sleeve. A boatload of power and that weight balance combine for a feat not normally seen out of a 911. Hanging the front hoops usually is a quick hop before returning to all four down, but this Porsche hangs and carries the wheels. It also hits sixty miles an hour in under two seconds and is capable of eight-second quarters. Ok, add another one to my “respect” list.

Yes! I watched Eddie make some exhibition passes in Indy during the now-defunct “Indy Truck Bash and Import Drags” car show in the late 90’s. I remember his car being on a drag radial (maybe a 275 at the most). It jumped up on the back bumper cover and carried the fronts for at least 10 feet.
