We had an awesome day at the kick off of the 2016 Bennett Auto Supply RPM Pro Mod Winter Warm Up here at Palm Beach International Raceway yesterday. The best cars in the country are here and there have been some amazing runs lai down. How amazing? Rickie Smith made the fastest nitrous run in drag racing history running 251.25mph in the quarter mile and bettering his own previous mark. Smith is still the only guy that has ever gone 250 on nitrous and he just keeps getting faster!

The first round of qualifying was held on Friday night and there will be three sessions today. Bob Rahaim currently leads all qualifiers with a 5.795/247mph and he’s followed by Troy Coughlin at 5.804/257, Danny Rowe 5.804/250.37 round out the top three.

The craziest moment of the night came when Doug Winters took his Meritor sponsored blown Chevelle down the track. The car went a big time career best of 5.826/252 through the lights and then things went south for Winters. Some sort of mechanical failure caused the parachutes not to deploy and the car ended up nosing into the net and rebounding off. Amazingly the car was not injured beyond needing to be cleaned and needing the nose taped up. They’ll be racing again today. Power in that car comes from a Mike Janis hemi.

18 cars made an attempt last night and there may be more today!
