(Words and Photos by Benoit Pigeon) This past Saturday was the EOPM (Extreme Outlaw Pro Mod) Memorial Shootout in honor of Kevin Bowen at Virginia Motorsports Park (VMP) in Dinwiddie, VA. Twenty one drivers showed up to battle it our in qualifying for the 8 car field. After all the dust settled in the final were Tommy Franklin and Travis Harvey, both with nitrous cars. Franklin damaged a part in the semis while Harvey set the best time of the week end with a 3.801. But the racers came for a cause and this escalated when about ten mechanics and racers came to Franklin’s aid to do their best at repairing the engine. At the green, both cars left, but Travis was victim of a purge malfunction and lifted, but not long after this it was Tommy’s turn to slow and the race became a pedal fest. Franklin was already far away and Harvey could not catch up.
In the end, the Bowen’s family benefited from the final as both drivers donated their checks.
