So along with BangShift I run around and do a few other things as well. Among them is a show on the Motor Trend on Demand Channel called Put Up or Shut Up. The premise of the show is pretty simple. I pick cars, tracks, and contestants who I want to see race or clash in some way and then we film it all. The winner gets $10,000 (truly) and the end result is a lot of racing fun with cool stuff. It isn’t going to be ALL drag racing but our first few episodes were all filmed on the strip. This Put Up or Shut Up Gasser Battle is amazing because of the cars, the drivers, and the story.
We ran these bad boys at Dragway 42 in West Salem, Ohio. Recently reopened after something like $10-million in investment, the facility was literally being finished around us when we got there. The two cars I picked were from the vaunted Southeast Gassers group run by Quain Stott. He faced off in his Willys against the Falcon of Gabriel Burrell. The cars are very period accurate and are not allowed electronic driver aids like a two step or anything of that nature. The best part though? The four speeds!
One of the things that we do on this show is break down the runs in a pretty neat way. We use telemetry boxes to record data and then I am able to take that information back and break it down. Watching the guys skills with the manual transmissions is fun both on video and in the data breakdown process as well.
So check it out! Put Up or Shut Up is a fun project and we’re doing our best to get better with every show.
Great episode! unlike some of these other shows out there this has a truly REAL feel to it and has an excellent technical aspect. Great job Lohnes!!!
This is Totally Awesome.
My favorite video on Bangshift. This is the drag racing that got me hooked as a kid.
MORE PLEASE! I was racing in the late 60’s Real Cool
Real racing. Great stuff!
Epic!
That was bad ass, keep that coming
Superb!
Entertaining,
Informative (historical perspective and why it is relevant)
and shows why the two opponents love to participate in their chosen sport.
This could be the tipping point for my MOD subscription.
