We’re all geared up to cover the 2015 March Meet this weekend and we’re getting your spun up as well. The other day we showed you Mendy Fry driving the Smokey’s Darkside nostalgia nitro funny car at Bakersfield during testing. Today we’re going over to the other side of the nitro ranks and looking at the top fuel dragsters that were at the test session at the Patch last weekend. This is “raw” video shot straight from the starting line and it is awesome because you are right up in the business of all these violent cackling hemi engines.
The top fuel field will be very stout at the March Meet this year as it always is. Sure, the funny cars dominate with respect to car count but these thundering bastards are still the kings of the nostalgia world when it comes to speeds and elapsed times. Yes, they look different than their brethren from 50 years ago but their performance evolution has been awesome.
There is nothing quite like seeing one of these cars running down the track looking straight down behind it. They do not go straight. Their narrow tires black track nearly the entire length of the track, they yaw and slide left to right and the guys who really know how to drive them can “stay ahead” of the car. That’s important because if you fall even a hundredth behind it, you will be heading for a rough end to your weekend. Front engine dragsters on nitro.
