I have personally witnessed Frank Mewshaw do some incredible things on a drag strip. I have seen him cross the eighth mile finish line of a drag radial race on the back wheels, I have seen him pull 3-4 wheelies on the same run and win. This is a guy who has been part of the scene for a long time and a guy who is primed to do major damage in the relatively new drag racing class known as Limited Drag Radial.
Limited Drag Radial was created as an answer to the nuclear like escalation of the famed “Radial VS The World” category which is one of the most audacious and awesome classes in the sport of drag racing. It is also now one of the most expensive to have a top shelf car in. Why? There are about 4 lines of rules. It is wide open and incredible. When that happens, guys with insanely bitchin’ and fast cars like Mewshaw find themselves in a truly uphill battle with the odds stacked against them.
Enter Limited Drag Radial where the rules package is way more conducive to “real cars” like Franks. This thing is a low 4-second hauler and these machines are insanely fun to watch.
In this video we ride with frank down at Orlando, Florida as he lets fly in his fearsome Firebird. You ride with him and then you will see the run from the outside of the car. This stuff spins out crank HARD!
If I had the money, id without a doubt, be running LDR. Such a cool, fast, and relatively cheap class considering how fast they are going. Looks like a blast to be driving that car.
