The Parting Shift: Ripping A 4-Speed Lenco In An 8-Second Single Turbo Small Block Nova

The Parting Shift: Ripping A 4-Speed Lenco In An 8-Second Single Turbo Small Block Nova

As much as the world is fully on board the LS train, it should be noted that there are PLENTY of other great ways to make obscene horsepower these days and the tried and true, 23-degree headed small block Chevy is one of them. The little small block may not longer dominate the headlines in terms of parts being innovated for it but the reality is that it is still the engine that generates the most parts sales volume for places like Jegs and Summit and there were far more of them produced than LS engines by huge numbers. Not that we need to be defending the small block Chevy but there it is.

This video features a very BangShifty little car. You are about to see a 1963 Nova with a 388ci traditional small block, boosted by an 88mm turbo, and backed by a 4-speed Lenco transmission run middle 8s at Tucson Dragway. This car looks to us to have a little roof chop action happening and the video is cool because we see the run from outside, from inside facing the driver and then inside facing out the back window. Let’s just say that things get small quick when watching to the back after the driver lets the clutch out!

The added bonus here is that the poster of the video mentions that the drive is his dad and that the run in question was a career best rip. From our eyes there was nothing wrong with this run at all. No drag racer will ever tell you that he made a flawless pass but there are very few things if any that we bet this shoe would change after grabbing the time slip.

Cool stuff!
