Pedalin’ Their Wares: Watch Ron Capps and Robert Hight Get Into The Wackiest Pedalfest of 2019 So Far

Pedalin’ Their Wares: Watch Ron Capps and Robert Hight Get Into The Wackiest Pedalfest of 2019 So Far

We knew it was going to happen at some point during the 2019 NHRA Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park. With a track that was over 130-degrees in temperature, with cars that make enough horsepower to spin the tires for miles, and for drivers who want to win every round like their lives depend o it, we knew that we were going to see at least one awesome pedaling run during eliminations on Sunday. As it turns out, we saw several but THIS one was about the best.

You are going to watch two of the funny car categories’ premier competitors engage in the kind of drag racing hand to hand combat that crew chiefs hate but fans and drivers love. In a normal nitro funny car race, the driver cannot make a huge positive move on the performance of the car. They either drive it properly and the car does what the crew chief wants or they drive it improperly and the car does not perform to the level they want.

Well, in this case, the crew chief wants and desires are you the window and you have to be the better driver. Both Capps and Hight are for sure hall of famers when they retire. Capps is wanting a second nitro funny car world championship this year, Hight is looking to better a second place finish in 2018. Run like this, events like this, they all help to fuel those competitive fire burning in the gut of both competitors.

You can believe that the next time these dudes line up, Hight will really have it in for Capps, wanting to get one back on him for this craziness. For Ron Capps, he would go on to win the race, his second in a row, and remind everyone that the NAPA team WILL be a factor when it comes down to brass tacks at the end of the 2019 NHRA campaign.
