Watch Shawn Langdon Save His Season By Catching Jim Campbell In A Wild Pedaler At St. Louis

Shawn Langdon won the NHRA AAA Insurance Midwest Nationals last weekend at World Wide Technology Raceway in St Louis and he managed to complete round wins by out running people, by hole-shotting them, and in the case of a wild second round matchup against Jim Campbell, by pedaling himself back into contention and passing his competition before the stripe.

We had an in-depth conversation with Langdon about this particular run on the NHRA Insider podcast and his explanation was awesome. For starters, the Global Electronic Technology team knew that they basically needed to win St Louis to keep any reasonable chance of winning a championship alive. Also, they knew that Campbell had downed Matt Hagan in round one to get his first round win of the entire 2019 season. They did not want to be victim number two. And then the tree came down. And then it sure looked like they were going to be.

Langdon’s car went up into tire smoke almost immediately while Campbell zipped away down the course. At the moment all seemed lost for Langdon, Campbell had problems and Langdon was already on the case in his Toyota Camry bodied car. Pedaling to get the car back up on the tire, he rolled into the throttle and while Campbell was coasting toward the finish line, was able to roar past him in dramatic fashion for the win.

The neatest thing is that Langdon called on his super comp racing skills to figure the rate of closure and he shut the car off at about 800ft as it was only running on six cylinders and was getting ready to spit the bit pretty hard. By him saving the engine and not causing extra damage he made life easier for his crew and set himself for a third and final round that’ll be notched into the history books showing him as the event winner.

Now…can they do it again next week in Charlotte?
