SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY: MSD Performance Is Selling Their Insanely Sweet 1970 SS396 Chevelle

MSD Performance is selling their 1970 Chevelle SS396 (which is a reall 1970 Chevelle SS396) and you should buy it because it is priced right for a car in this condition and it is simply an awesome hot rod. This is a car done to the degree that it needed to be finished to with the understanding that it would be displaced at places like SEMA, NHRA events, the MPMC conference, and other high profile joints where media and photographers would be climbing all over it. The car is one of the rare cases of being both restored and modified to the point that both things pretty much blend together.

One of the things that MSD was seemingly trying to accomplish with this car was telling everyone that their Atomic EFI could be used in their application and not wreck the “originality” of their car. Keeping the outward looks perfectly stock and adding the EFI system in a manner that is completely unobtrusive (like they planned) made this Chevelle the perfect platform. If you want a gnarly Chevelle that is in pristine condition that you probably should not own for money that is far less than it could actually sell for, hit the link below and make it happen. K?

HERE’S THE FULL SCOOP ON THE CAR –

It’s time for a new project or two at MSD and to clear some space we’re selling our ’70 SS 396 Chevelle! This Chevelle has been on Power Tour and displayed at SEMA, the Media Trade Conference and even NHRA events!
When we purchased the SS it was an older restoration in need of detailing and performance upgrades

. The car is an original Cranberry Red SS with black stripes and black bucket seat interior. The original 396 received a set of Edelbrock heads and RPM intake, Hooker Headers, BeCool radiator and fans, Hooker Headers, Vintage Air Front Runner system and of course an Atomic EFI and MSD Ignition system. IMO . . . asking price is too high. Should be $30K or less. You can buy a fully restored 1970 Chevelle SS 396 for less than $40,000. They aren’t rare at all. Chevy made 53,599 L34 SS 396 Chevelles in 1970.

Yep, “willing to sell” gets a chuckle here at that price, those of us that remember when that was a $1500 Chevy (sigh) would probably step up for 30 considering the interesting history as the MSD car…but they may find a guy who hands out bucks easier than I do, I wish them the best. All that said, a stock ’70 SS-396 Chevelle remains possibly the best combination of looks, power, affordability and drivability from the musclecar era, I’m not sure that if I had one I could let it go very easily.

Something many people don’t know about the 1970 L34 SS 396 Chevelle. It doesn’t have a power robbing AIR smog pump like the 1968 and 1969s do. It used CCS: Controlled Combustion Spark to meet the Federal Guidelines. The same is for the LS5 SS 454. But, both the 1970 L78 396 and LS6 454 did use AIR.

First class car. The car has documentation and is a MSD project car built with top notch parts. Try and find one and build it for that kind of money. I have a 71 with much more money in it.
