(Photos by Tommy Lee Byrd) – Tommy Lee Byrd has been killing it lately with tons of great photos from places like Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip in Georgia. His latest dispatch came to us in the form of some killer photos from the track’s street car shootout that combined the rules that we all know and love about this genre of drag racing. You have to pass tech, you have to drive it on the street, and you have to be bad ass fast on the strip. Back in the 1990s when the pro street stuff really caught fire, the idea of a 30 mile drive around a track facility was horrifying for many competitors. Today we have events like Drag Week and Rocky Mountain Race Week that see vehicles tested into the thousands of miles and raced at the same time!
As you will see, this was a group of cars and trucks that rival anything you’ll see around the country today. Bad fast, radial tires, wheelies, and horsepower galore, all wrapped in a street legal package that brought them down the track and down the street.
