Street Car Takeover Indy Coverage: The Popular Series Loads Up The Historic Strip!

(Words and photos by Jacob Marshall) – Even if I lived under a rock, I would have still known Street Car Takeover was in Indy. When I was eating my waffles downtown on Saturday, I was graced by the presence of a quick car at nearly every light, some rowdy enough to even require chutes. The event really does live up to its name.

By now, Street Car Takeover is an event that speaks for itself; street legal cars, big horsepower, big crowds, no prep racing, roll racing, and a wide variety of vehicles. With the weather in Indianapolis being cold, wet, and terrible all week, the event itself got pushed back a day. Placing Friday night’s usual no prep event a day behind schedule. But when the sun finally showed its face on Saturday morning, some of the hottest streetcars in the Midwest showed up to party.

While we can’t tell you ET’s, because the event was ran with the lights off, we can tell you that these cars move! And while the cold, unprepped track, and high winds truly tested the skills of the drivers on the big end of the track, veteran no prep racers had no issues launching their cars, with numerous wheelstands as evidence. The biggest surprise of the event wasn’t the wide variety of vehicles parked in the pits and on the track, but the sheer quantity of fast trucks trying to hook in a platform that isn’t known to be conducive to traction! SCT offers a great time at the track, but the atmosphere and the crowd that follows the event is what makes it so great. So whether you’re looking to finally settle a grudge with that Camaro down the street, or just need something to do on a Saturday night, Street Car Takeover is always worth the journey.
