The opening of a new drag strip is cause for celebration, even if the place in question is located in a foreign land. In the video below we’re taking you to Brazil and the first passes on a track called Arena Race located in the state of Minas Gerais. This is a brand new strip in a country that is as drag obsessed as we are here in the USA. The track is not the biggest place ever built but is sure looks nice to us. The tree is one of the wildest we have seen with about half a billion lights screwed into it. From the looks of the overhead footage that is included in this video the drag strip has been formed out of one end of a runway or airstrip of some sort. See how the straight line of the racing surface carries in the same direction “the wrong way” past the starting line? That’s our “evidence”. We could not locate the specific location on a satellite map to verify but that is our hunch.
The track has really nice permanent lighting, tented areas for spectators, a big grandstand, and it is completely spotless. The cars that race in this video also help to tell the story. There are some really hairy looking turbocharged front wheel drive late models, some classic iron of the rear wheel drive variety, and a bunch of cool stuff that we’re not sure exactly what it is. We do know that the place looks perfectly kept and we hope it stays that way. More drag strips, no matter where they are mean a healthier sport across the world. We’d love to make a run at this fine looking facility. How about you?
Practice your Portuguese Brian…who knows, could be a nice winter trip!
I’d love to run my funny car here…I love Brasil.
