(Photos by Bob Boudreau) – Over the last couple of weeks we have been sharing some awesome photos taken by Canadian Bob Boudreau at New England Dragway in Epping, NH. Bob exhausted his supply of NED photos but then let us know that he had a collection of photos from the 1973 NHRA Summernationals held at Englishtown, NJ. We cried for joy and then asked him to send us the photos. As expected they are just as neat and cool as his NED stuff and perhaps even better.
In this first gallery from the race you will see funny cars, top fuelers, pro stocks, and even a weirdo competition eliminator car or three. The sportsman cars are totally awesome to look at and as I have mentioned in the past, my favorite top fuel cars in history are the pieces from the early rear engine dragster era. The cars had this awesome look to them, a laid back driving position, etc and they were also pretty spindly so they heaved and shook at idle making them seems insanely dangerous. The funny cars of the period are freaking awesome, too. Let’s not forget the pro stocks….ok everything in this gallery is flipping sweet!
I couldn’t find myself, but I’m somewhere in the spectator stands with my father.
Great shots, and spectacular photography. From the days when you took a photo and didn’t know if you exposed it correctly until the film came back to the drugstore. My hat is off to you sir.
Wow, what a flash back! I could have very well been there. I use to go to all the SN back then. I wouldn’t trade those days for anything!
me, either good times.
The other side sucks!!!!!!!
