Oh wow. That’s exactly what we said when we first saw this hunk of magical goodness on the pages of eBay. What you are looking at is a 1961 Falcon gasser that is called the Gas Hopper. The car has a 306ci small block Ford engine, a straight axle, zoomie headers that exit out of the front fenders, skinnies in the front, and pie crust slicks in the rear, this thing has the stance, the paint, and the attitude that we love…a lot. We did not even mention the yellow tinted windows either! There’s an element of fun with the rag hanging out of the gas tank as well which made us smile.
No, this thing would not have been an A/Gas car with a 306ci engine but if it bugs you that much you can “re-class” it when you get it into your own shop. We may ditch the little B&M scoop as well but we’re splitting hairs. The interior is spartan and period looking with the factory dash and speckled vinyl covering the seats. The old school green steering wheel, green shifter ball, and radical old school gas pedal complete the look and we dig it.
That little 306ci engine is bolted to a Ford C4 automatic transmission and there’s an 8″ Ford axle out back with ladder bars, a mini-spool, and 4.11 gears (so you can really get lost according to Commander Cody). The Speedway front end has disc brakes hanging on the ends up front and there are drums to of the stopping in the rear. The bumper-less front end has all the purposeful looks that you could ever need and the roll bar looks nicely done as well. The rig has been into the mid 8s in the eighth mile but as well all know, quicker elapsed times are just a supercharger away.
This thing is awesome and we’d cruise it forever!

these guys will be running plexi-glass firewalls, like monster trucks use to see where they’re going……
Not a fan of the nosebleed stance, prefer the SWC look. Change the 306 for an FE and were good to go!
I like it…I don’t love the zoomies – would prefer to see a set of fender well headers and I would like to see a hood on it but overall it is killer,
Lower the vertigo-inducing stance, fit fenderwell headers and above all make it fully streetable as its far to nice to go anywhere near a drag strip!
But above all – under no circumstances pollute it with an LS…
